Everybody likes a party at home, but who really likes the prep? Cleaning the barbecue? Gross. Dusting off the spare seats in the garage? Yawn.
Don’t worry – it doesn’t all have to be a total snore-fest! Here are five fun ways to get your house party-ready:
-
Cleanse The Space
Why not let your inner hippy come out with a spiritual spring clean of your home? It’s so easy, you don’t even need a hemp bra or a daisy chain! Cleansing a space is a spiritual practice designed to evict bad vibes. You can do it with sound vibrations, sage sticks, flower petal bowls, or even an electric aromatherapy diffuser.
True believers in energy work will free the house of old energy blocks and boost the feel-good waves in the party areas. Those who are a little more skeptical will still get to enjoy the delightful aromas (which your guests are sure to appreciate too)!
-
Say Thanks To Your Clutter
Tidying Up with Marie Kondo continues to help people all over the world create more functional homes. However, if we are honest, saying thanks to items we no longer need as we declutter feels silly.
As it turns out, though, the sillier you feel, the better the end result will be! Try this the next time you’re ditching detritus in advance of a party. There’s nothing like a novelty to get you clearing up and tidying a space. Follow Marie’s guide, and you’ll probably get a good giggle out of it too!
-
Create The Perfect Playlist
Have you ever started playing one song that you love and then three hours later, you’ve been down a rabbit hole of pop, folk, rock, and everything in between? Those times are the best times, so why not gift yourself with one of these sessions as you prep for your party? Create a playlist that’s sure to get your friends and family moving and grooving.
-
Let Your Inner Artist Loose
Party decorations can cost a lot of money. Why not save the cash for great food and drink, and instead craft your way to fantastic DIY decorations? You can make pretty much anything you want, including table settings, origami flowers or fruit, garlands, backdrops, floral lettering, and more. This is also a great activity to get the kids involved in the party planning if they’re feeling a little left out.

Cook Up A Buffet Of Dreams
Buying buffet food from the supermarket is quicker and easier than making it all yourself. However, you’re robbing yourself of the joys of being heralded a culinary genius for your buffet.
Okay, maybe not, but, you are cheating yourself out of having some real fun with the party food and drinks. Putting your cookware to use by baking cupcakes, whipping up hummus, and making fruity cocktail jugs are all great ways to party-prep whilst having a little creative fun.
We love this delicious hummus recipe for party buffets:
- One can of cooked, drained chickpeas
- One heaped tablespoon of tahini (or nut butter)
- Juice of one lemon
- Pinch of salt
- Pinch of pepper
- One garlic clove
- One teaspoon of cumin
- One teaspoon of dried parsley
- A good glug of olive oil
Blend the ingredients and adjust the measurements to reach the taste and texture you like. Display with an extra drizzle of olive oil, some whole chickpeas, and a sprinkle of smoked paprika at the party.
As the mysterious “they” apparently say, life is about journeys, not destinations. By hosting a party, you can enjoy both, especially if you give our tips above a go!
