It can be difficult to choose the right surfboard. It can be difficult to choose the right surfboard. Your level, weight, height, wave forecast, and other factors should all be considered. We have outlined three key points that will help you make the right choice on croyde surf hire.
A SURFBOARD THAT FITS YOUR LEVEL OF PRACTICE
Your board will be used, so it is important that you accurately estimate its level. Be humble, as overestimating your level will result in a board that limits your progression phase.
There are three levels: Expert, Intermediate, and Beginner.
If you are a beginner:
You are just starting surfing, or have only done it once. You enjoy being in the water, and want to learn. However, you often wipe out during your sessions. It is important to remember that this stage requires you to stay right where you are. You can move to the line up for small waves, or stay in the white waves.
There are many beginner surfboards that can be used by all sizes and weights. These boards are perfect for learning quickly and experiencing your first sensations.
Foam boards are strongly recommended for this stage. These boards have the ideal volume to easily paddle and take waves. These boards are stable and will allow you to balance quickly. They also forgive minor mistakes. You will be able to quickly and safely learn how to stand (your first take-off) and follow directions.
If you are an Intermediary:
You are a regular surfer or have a solid base of surfing experience thanks to many holidays. Once you reach the line-up, duck diving with a shortboard is possible. You can surf waves less than one meter in length, and you are able to master the takeoff.
Once you feel comfortable riding small waves, it is time to move to a mini malibu. To make it easier to transition to a shortboard, we offer a variety of mini malibu sizes. A mini-malibu will give you stability, volume, and forgiveness for your mistakes. This board is fun to paddle. You can take maximum waves even in summer conditions and you will improve your skills quickly.
You can also surf larger shortboards if you really want one. The Tork range is great, and we also have a few boards in stock or online.
If you’re an expert:
You have been surfing for many years and you still surf regularly. The duck dive is your friend. You can easily paddle to the line up. You can generate speed, perform a bottom turn, and do some manoeuvres.
We are well aware that high-performance boards are what you need at this stage. You want a board that can be easily handled and adapts to your needs, no matter what size it is.
Very experienced surfers can get brand-new FIREWIRE surfboards. We offer the Sci-Fi to the Go Fish, the Sci-Fi and also the “performance” longboards. We have the right board for you, whether you are a longboard surfer or a shortboarder.
SURFING IN LINE WITH YOUR MORPHOLOGY
You must also consider your morphology when calculating your level.
One exception is for beginners. You should choose a large volume board if you’re new to surfing. You will be able to take the most waves on a big board, which makes it easier to paddle.
The dimensions of your surfboard will depend on your height and weight. It is obvious that the length of your surfboard should be longer, wider, and thicker if you are heavier than you are. The boards’ length is expressed in feet (each foot equals 30.48 cm), so don’t be alarmed if a Longboard doesn’t measure 9 meters.
Our website has an algorithm that will help you select the right board for your needs. Our weight and height recommendations are listed underneath each board. It is free to be used to search for what you need in our quiver.
It is difficult to choose the right board for you based on your weight and height. The best thing to do is to test several boards before you decide. Try several boards. Marty Surf Delivery allows you to rent one board and have it changed the next day or week. This will allow you to choose the best board for you. You can also rent a board to test it out before you buy.
SURFING IN CONNECTION TO THE WAVE
It is important to know how to select the right surfboard for you, regardless of your level or morphology. The best choice depends on what type and size of wave you’re surfing. There is no perfect surfboard that suits all conditions. We do offer different boards for different waves. You will also need to have different boards if you plan to surf every day.
Let’s have a closer look at these conditions.
FOR SOFT AND SMALL WAVES
Although we won’t generalize, it is often the case in France during summer. To have fun on small waves you need a mini malibu (Hybrid), or a longboard. These boards are ideal for long curves and noseride session. You can also choose from large shortboards and twin fin fish. You want a board that gives you enough power and allows you to paddle quickly and efficiently.
FOR HOLLOW WAVES
Summer can bring hollow waves to the sandbanks of “Les Landes”, but there are only a few spots along the basque coast like Anglet. The ideal shortboard is one that’s not too wide and has rocker (the curve). It will depend on your level of skill and morphology. However, if you want to get maximum performance out of your shortboard (barrel), then you need a high-performance one.
For BIG and SOFT WAVES
Parlementia’s famous wave! This type of wave requires a large board with a well-shaped shape. You need a board that is large enough to allow you to paddle at speed. Because the wave is large, it will allow surfers to do nice curves and maneuvers. A gun or a shape of mid length like the Seaside & Beyond are required.
Ask for help to find the right board. A test ride is the best way to find out if you like the board.
Happy surfing,
